Great Start for Blackwater Steelers
Sep 26, 2018, 9:55 am

U12 GirlsThe Steelers had 8 games over the course of the weekend as the NEEB season bounced on to the floors throughout many sports halls in the North East region. Of those 8 games, 7 against the traditionally strong East Cavan Eagles and one against Tara Druids, Blackwater Steelers won 6 of them which is a really great start to the new season.

SATURDAY

Proper defending from the U12 BoysU12 Boys:East Cavan Eagles 24pts Blackwater Steelers 26pts

A two point win in overtime, wow, what could be better! This Game was played at a frenetic pace throughout and there was very little between the two teams. Level at end of 1st quarter and at half time, the Eagles won the 3rd by 6 points and things looked bleak. Our lads gave a mighty push in final qtr to level up and bring the game to overtime which the Steelers won by 2 points. 24-26 being the final score. This was a great comeback from the lads.

U14 Boys: East Cavan Eagles 38pts Blackwater Steelers 24pts

The Eagles proved too strong in the end for our 14 boys both in sheer size and in overall court smarts, but I have to say I was impressed with these lads and they will trouble a lot of sides during the season. The Steelers led by 6pts at half time, 18 to 12 and were playing well, but the Eagles came back strong in the remaining two quarters winning both 10pts to 4 and 16pts to 2pts

Team & Scorers: Cian Murphy 10pts, Ali Elsayed 4pts, Sean O Connell 4pts, Ben O Brien 2pts, Mark Corrigan 2pts, Harvey Colleran 2pts, Jack Murphy, Sean Woods, Andrew Walsh, Aidan McKnight, Fionan Gallagher and Matthew Finn.

U16 Boys: East Cavan Eagles 34pts Blackwater Steelers 52pts

This was a good performance and a decent win against the Eagles for a first day out. The Monaghan side led throughout the first 3 quarters and give up a few scores in the last as the younger lads bedded in at the U 16 level.

Team & Scorers: Tiernan O Rourke 16pts, Jamie Krisiulevicius, 14pts, Rio Corrigan 10pts, Ricardo Vines Cardo 6pts, Mark Donohoe 3pts, Liam Conway 2pts, Donacha O Hanlon 1pt, Luke Cawley, Michael McMorrow, Matthew Curley, Enri Shiels and Conal Harpin

U18 Boys: East Cavan Eagles 27pts Blackwater Steelers 79pts

This was a commanding performance from start to finish with a nice score to boot. There will be tougher challenges as the season progresses but a great start to the season.
Team & Scorers: S. Uglis 18pts, C. McKenna 18pts, D. McKenna 10pts, C. Liddle 9pts, K. Fitzpatrick 8pts, K. McCaffrey 6pts, C. Maguire 4pts, L. Shiels 2pts, C. Mulligan 2pts, L. McKenna and B. Heffernan.

SUNDAY

U12 Girls: East Cavan Eagles 15pts  Blackwater Steelers 29pts

First up on Sunday were the U 12 Girls and they were feeling a little nervous as it was their 1st game and a little bit daunted by height of Eagles, the girls went down in 1st qtr 4-0.
Emily Mc Ginnity got things rolling in 2nd with our 1st score, followed by Niamh Maguire but the Eagles fought back basket for basket leaving us going into half time on equal points 11-11
The Steelers girls determination and fight put them in lead at end of third after 2 baskets from Dearbhla Marron and 2 lovely frees from Sarah O Reilly, finishing 15-17.
But it was in the last quarter where girls really pulled it out of the bag and sisters Aine and Niamh Maguire scored 12 points between them! This was a super first win for the girls, with a final score of 15pts to 29pts.

Team & Scorers: Emily Mc Ginnity (2pts)Ava Callery, Dearbhla Marron (4pts) Grace Lennon, Ciara O Riordan, Aine Maguire (10pts) Niamh Maguire (11pts) Emma McCague, Ava Murphy, Sarah O Reilly (2pts)Fern Treanor, Niamh Corrigan.

U14 Girls: East Cavan Eagles 52pts Blackwater Steelers 29pts

The stronger home team won this one quite convincingly.

U16 Girls: East Cavan Eagles 20pts Blackwater Steelers 49pts

This was great to get a win in our first game of the season.  The hard work attitude  and spirit that this bunch of girls possess helped execute a very effective full court defence strategy.
This  led to some easy scores against the Eagles side. Coaches Kelly and Delma are looking forward to working with these girls this season.

Team & Scorers: Holly Mc Quaid  14pts, Paula Macias 8 pts, Rachel Callery 7pts, Ava Ross 6pts , Brid Mc Nally 4pts, Andrea Paz Lorenzo 4pts, Niamh O Connell 4pts, Katie Deery 2 pts, Alex Mc Kenna, Aine Ni Dhufaigh, Aine Mc Quaid, Erica Mc Donald, Mollie Birdy, Cathy Mc Kenny, Rachel Lennon , Alex Carlisle.

U14 B Boys: Tara Druids 28pts Blackwater Rapids 38pts

This was a brilliant first outing for our U 14 Development team. After a slow start they came from behind to take a 2pt lead in the first. They went behind by 4pts in the second but regained their composure in the 3rd and stretched their lead in the 4th. Well done lads this was a super start.

Team & Scorers: Max Aughey 8pts, Michael McNally 8pts, Sennan Cudden 8pts, Jason Lambrindis 6pts, Oisin Reilly 6pts, Rory Conway 2pts, Eoghan McGinn, Adam McElvaney, Conor McElvaney, Luke Irwin, Diarmuid McGinnity and Darragh Mulligan.

Blackwater Steelers would like to extend huge thanks to the general public of Monaghan and surrounds for supporting our Annual Bucket Collection, to the parents and volunteers who actually shook the buckets. Huge thanks also to Sonia McKenna, long standing committee member, volunteer and parent who organised the whole thing, it would not have happened without you.

Blackwater Steelers Announce New Coach
Aug 28, 2018, 7:35 am

Blackwater Steelers Announce New CoachBlackwater Steelers basketball club are about to commence their 10th season in their short but successful history and the club is swirling with a vibrant air of excitement that I have not experienced over the years. From humble beginnings with just two teams competing locally to 9 teams entered annually in an expansive North East league, the club has attained National success and provided the pathway for a number of Irish Internationals not to mention enhancing the lives of loads of children throughout North Monaghan. But this is not the reason for all the excitement, the reason is the news below that leaked out during the week.

Blackwater Steelers are delighted to be welcoming Alejandro Mingorance from Catalonia in North East Spain to the coaching team at Steelers for the 2018/2019 season. Alejandro was a former player with Club Basquet Sama de Vilanova and has been coaching basketball for the past seven years in clubs, schools and sports camps in the Catalonia region in Spain. He has coached all age groups up to U21 and did most of his coaching courses with Nou Basquet Vilanova through the Catalan Federation. In 2016 Alejandro coached his U12 team and won the National championship school league in Catalonia. In 2017/18 his U14 team were also championship winners under his mentoring and he was assistant coach in 2017 in the National Selection for the region.

Alejandro will be arriving in Monaghan next week and will be involved in some capacity with all the teams within the club. We are very excited as a club to be embarking on this journey with Alejandro and we hope he will enhance the skill level of all the players he encounters. We also hope he will be very happy with his new role and new surroundings and hope he will be embraced by the community of Monaghan.

Trials and training are up and running this week and will continue next week so please keep in tune with the Blackwater Steelers facebook page for more details of times and venues. The Blackwater Steelers website will have information on registration forms and all club policies so check those out. The new season will probably start the weekend 22/23 Sept, so we look forward to seeing you all in the coming weeks.Blackwater Steelers Announce New Coach

Blackwater Steelers - League & Cup Double Winners 2 Years in a Row
Apr 24, 2018, 3:47 pm

The Blackwater Steelers U 18 Boys covered themselves in glory by winning both the Nebb League and Cup Double for the 2nd year in a row. On top of that they have remained unbeaten for both seasons. Coached by Tom O Connor this 16 strong panel have swept all aside and with 6 of them still U 18 again next year it should make the U 18s very competitive again next year.

Blackwater Steelers hosted the U 18 Top 4s for boys and girls at the weekend and by all reports back from teams there, it was pretty close to perfect. The end result was pretty perfect too as the host team and League Winners battled in the boy’s final with League Runners up Cavan Lakers.

Blackwater Steelers 46pts Cavan Lakers 44pts

The Steelers were overwhelming favourites to blow Cavan out of this final but Cavan had other ideas. Despite being overrun by 21pts to 8pts by the end of the first quarter after a superior rebounding and shooting performance by Killian McAdam, they came back to make a great fight of the game. They came out aggressively in the 2nd getting into the Steelers faces and with the help of some nonchalant refereeing started to knock the hosts out of their rhythm. The Steelers contributed to a one point deficit at half time with some bad decision making and a macho aggression that sent Cavan to the free-throw line time and again.

A strong performance from the Steelers in the third with 3 massive 3 pointers from Andrew O Connor wrestled the game back into their own hands. Still Cavan Lakers believed, and some of the Steelers poor decisions kept giving them a reason to believe but overall this Blackwater Steelers team have just too much about them and were not going to let this final go. The Final Score was 46pts to 44pts.

Team & Scorers: K. McAdam 18pts, A. O Connor 13pts, C. Fitzgerald 6pts, R. Treanor 5pts, R. Haynes 4pts. M. McDonnell, D. McKenna, Kai McCaffrey, D. Leonard, Sean Conway, S. Ostrowski and S. Uglis.

On the way to the final Blackwater Steelers defeated a strong Drogheda Bullets team by 74pts to 56pts. Drogheda are a big athletic team and this was a bruising encounter.

Team & Scorers: A. O Connor 29pts, K. McAdam 19pts, R. Haynes 11pts, R. Treanor 9ptsC. Fitzgerald 5pts, D. McKenna 1pt, L. O’Rourke, M. McDonnell, S. Uglis, S. Ostrowski, S. Conway and D. Leonard.

Cavan Lakers beat the Drogheda Nuggets who are the under 17 version of Drogheda Bullets in their semi final.

U18 Women

The results for the U 18 girls were as follows:

  • Semi-Final 1: Muckno Lakers 49pts Dunshaughlin Rockets 44pts
  • Semi-Final 2: Navan Cougars 52pts East Cavan Eagles 57pts
  • Final:  Muckno Lakers 38pts East Cavan Eagles 52pts

So East Cavan Eagles were crowned Top 4 winners despite finishing 3rd in the League.

Blackwater Steelers would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to a very successful hosting of the U 18 Top 4s on Saturday last. Thank you to all the sandwich makers, the people who manned the tea station, the volunteers who worked until late on Friday evening cleaning and mopping the Sem hall, our wonderful master of ceremonies, to the table officials, to Peter McMahon and Emyvale.net and to all who helped in any way but not mentioned above.  All these people give of their time freely, unpaid and sometimes not thanked. The club would not exist but for that volunteer spirit. Well done and thank you.

Thank you also to St Macartans College who are always so accommodating, thank you also to Monaghan Cricket Club and thank you to the Referees who although get paid ever more handsomely, the games cannot run without them.

Blackwater Steelers Host U18 Top Fours
Apr 17, 2018, 10:53 am

On Saturday next April 21st Blackwater Steelers host the Nebb Top 4 competition for the 2017-18 season in St Macartans College Monaghan. So, if you are interested in seeing some top-class girls’ and boys’ basketball action come on up to St Macartans on Saturday.

Blackwater Steelers have already wrapped up the U 18 Boys League with a 14-0-win ratio and an 8-point lead over 2nd placed Cavan Lakers. Drogheda Bullets have 2 teams in third and fourth place and it will all come to a boiling point on Saturday where the Steelers will be trying to complete a League and Cup Double for the second year in a row.

The Blackwater Steeler girls U 18 team did not make the Top 4s this year, so it will be left to Muckno Lakers who are League winners, Navan Cougars, East Cavan Eagles and Dunshaughlin Rockets to fight it out for the cup. This should be good competition as there wasn’t much between any of them in the league.

The running order is as follows but following an outrageous decision about the running of the U 14 Top-Fours this may change. Keep up to date on the Blackwater Steelers Facebook page.

Silverhill Farms continues support for Steelers
Mar 19, 2018, 11:31 pm

Silverhill Farms continued support for SteelersIt was a great day for the Steelers Basketball club last Sunday as Greg Devlin from Silverhill Farms presented the club with their annual sponsorship cheque. The Blackwater Steelers basketball club was formed in 2007 and since 2012 this local company have been very supportive to the club each year.

The club has presently 9 underage teams participating in the North East Basketball League which covers the areas of Monaghan Cavan Meath Longford and Louth. There are 140 kids on registered teams and a further 60 young under 10 kids playing with our junior academy. The club is out training every evening of the week from approx. 6.30 to 9 between St Macartans College and Colaiste Oiriall Monaghan. The competitive games are held most weekends with coaches, kids, parents and helpers travelling to such places as Dunshaughlin or Virginia Cavan.

Since its foundation the club has won numerous regional titles each year at U12, U14, U16 and U18 age groups with both boys and girls. 2017 was a special year for the club when they won Two All-Ireland competitions with the U14 Boys team achieving their gold title in Limerick in April and the U16 girls gaining their title in Carlow in the same month.

Blackwater Steelers wish to express their sincere gratitude to Silverhill Farms for their continued support.

Good wins for Steelers

U16-BWS-Girls_2017-2018U12 Boys

The U12 boys recovered from their midweek defeat to Muckno Lakers to beat Streete comprehensively.

U14 Boys:  BWS 67pts Streete 56pts

The boys played brilliantly against a good team and came away with a good win. The second half was a complete scoring fest with both sides going at it hammer and tongue. The 2nd quarter boys were brilliant today and there is no doubt that’s what won us the game.

Team & Scorers: J. Krisiulevicius 33pts, C. Harpin 14pts, L. Kriscunas 6pts, L. Cawley 4pts, G. Treanor 2pts, D. O Hanlon 2pts, M. Donohoe 2pts, M. McMorrow 2pts, E. Shiels 2pts, D. McPhillips and S. S Kelly.

U18 Boys:  BWS 83pts Streete 26pts

This was an easy win for the home team who still remain top of the league and unbeaten.

Team & Scorers: K. McAdam 23pts, A. O Connor 16pts, R. Haynes 9pts,C. Fitzgerald 8pts, R. Treanor 8pts, C. McKenna 6pts, M. McDonnell 4pts, S. Uglis 4pts, D. Leonard 3pts, S. Conway 2pts. S. Ostrowski & D. McKenna.

U16 Girls:  BWS 35 Streete 22pts

This was a great win built on good defence, but the girls missed a lot in offence which kept the game close until the end of the third.

Team & Scorers: Niamh  O Connell 12pts, Brid mc Nally 6pts, Dearbhla Ni Ghallchoir 6pts, Amy Deery 6pts, Alex Mc Kenna 2pts, Riona Kilpatrick 2 pts and Aine Ni Dufaigh 1pt.

U16 Girls:  Dunshaughlin 25 BWS 33

This was the 2nd win for the girls over the weekend after beating Streete at home

Team & Scorers: Riona Kilpatrick 10pts, Brid Mc Nally 8pts, Amy Deery 7pts, Dearbhla Ni Ghallchoir 2 pts, Aine Ni Dufaigh  2pts, Alex Mc Kenna 2pts.

U18 Girls:  Dunshaughlin 47 BWS 40

The Steelers got off to a very bad start, down 21 to 4 in the first quarter. A combination of travelling and a poor warm up and Dunshaughlin were hungrier for the win in the first. We only really started to play towards the end of the second and we didn’t do enough to recover.

Team & Scorers: Lara O Máirtín 11 pts, Morgan Mc Kenna 8pts, Mollie Molloy 8pts, Aisling Ni Ghallchoir 6pts, Amy Mulligan 3 pts, Alison Mc ride 3pts Riona Kilpatrick Amy Deery

U14 Girls:  BWS 47 Muckno Lakers 48

BWS played Muckno Lakers on Wednesday evening in the Sem in front of a large crowd. The crowd definitely got treated to a great game. It was a close contest throughout and ultimately it was decided by fine margins.

The Steelers played great defence in the first but were somewhat nervous on offence. They held the Lakers to 10pts and scored 8pts themselves in the first quarter; 4pts coming from Erica McDonald. Silly nervous mistakes prevented the Steelers from getting more baskets, but a brilliant display on defence kept it close. After the first it was 8-10 to Lakers.

The second quarter was a quarter dominated by the two team’s no7’s. No 7 for BWS was Holly McQuaid and no7 for Lakers was Aoibheann McCooey; both put up big numbers in this quarter. Holly scoring 14pts and Aoibheann scoring 18pts in the second quarter alone. Our defence wasn’t quite as locked in as it was in the first but they still made a great account of themselves. At the half it was 24-30 to the Lakers.

The Steelers started the second half with determination. All players worked tirelessly on defence, which paid off. Rachel Callery and Amelia provided the scores which all came from the solid team defence. Steelers outscored Lakers in this quarter by 4pts. After the 3rd it was 37-39 to the Lakers.

The last quarter was a fast and intense. Neither team wanted  to lose and it showed in their play. Steelers ended up on team fouls in comparison to the Lakers who were only on two team fouls. This proved costly as it sent Lakers to the free throw line regularly; on the night Lakers were extremely proficient in their free throw shooting scoring 14pts from free throws alone.

In the dying seconds Steelers were ahead by 1pt; a foul was committed which sent the Lakers to the free throw line for two shots. The first was made tying the game and the second was also made putting Lakers up by a 1pt. The Steelers just had one opportunity to try and claim victory but unfortunately couldn’t get a good shot up.

Over all a terrific performance from the girls against the current table toppers and 2017 league champions. The girls were very unlucky not to claim victory, losing out by the smallest of margins. Great progress being made by the team.

Team and scorers: Holly McQuaid 20pts, Rachel Callery 8pts, Katie Trainor 6pts, Amelia Deery 5pts, Erica McDonald 4pts, Eille Curran 2pts, Ellen McDonald 2pts, Gormlaith MacConghail, Cathy McKenny, Aine McQuaid, Rachel Lennon, Aoibheann McGinnity, Aoife McSkeane, Bernice John and Alex Carlisle.

Table Quiz

Please take note and support the Blackwater Steelers Annual Table Quiz will be held in Terry’s Bar Monaghan on Friday March 9th.

Bullets hurt Steelers
Feb 20, 2018, 12:34 am

U14 GirlsThe Steelers entertained 8 teams from Drogheda over the course of the weekend, with 2 of the 3 girl’s teams winning their matches whereas it was only the 18 Boys who won 1 of 5 games on Sunday.

Saturday

-

U12 Girls:  Blackwater Steelers 23pts Drogheda Sparks 5ts

A great win against the Sparks to start the weekend off to a good start. 9 – 0 and 6 – 0 in the first two quarters set the tone and practically won the game for the Steelers. The 2nd half was a little more even but the Steelers were always in charge.

Team & Scorers: E. McGinnity 5pts, S. Healy 4pts, A. McCormack 4pts, C. Nally 4pts, N. McQuaid 2pts, L. Lennon 2pts, C. O Neil 2pts, A. Trainor, S. O Donald, D. Marron and D. Cawley.

U14 Girls:  Blackwater Steelers 50pts v Drogheda Sparks 23pts

A big first quarter from Steelers set the tone for the game. Playing with much improved defence for three quarters and getting good looks on offence proved to be more than enough for Steelers to claim victory. Our two inside players Rachel Callery and Erica McDonald got the scores in the first half which were created by good team defence and limited turnovers. Steelers led 13 -1 at the end of the first quarter.

Drogheda played tough in the second quarter and outscored Steelers by 1pt, however the third quarter finished it as a contest with Steelers outscoring Drogheda again by 14pts. Holly McQuaid in particular, linking up well with her teammates in the third. In the end Steelers ran out 50 – 23 winners.

Team and scorers: Rachel Callery 21pts, Holly McQuaid 12pts, Erica McDonald 4pts, Aine McQuaid 4pts, Cathy McKenny 4pts, Aoife McSkeane 3pts, Katie Treanor 2pts, Rachel Lennon, Eille Curran and Ellen McDonald.

U16 Girls:  Blackwater Steelers 39pts Drogheda Sparks 43pts

This was a really good performance by the Steeler girls, but the win just eluded them on the day.

Sunday

 - U14 A Boys:  Blackwater Steelers 50pts Drogheda Bullets 56pts

This was a tight game with the visitors just edging the victory and probably deservedly so. The Steelers are over reliant on one player whereas Drogheda had more spread throughout the quarters. That one player J. Krisiulevicius scored 41 of our 50pts despite being tightly marked which no doubt contributed to his tiredness towards the end. He was well supported by Gary Treanor, Luke Cawley and Michael McMorrow who gave everything but the Steelers came up short.

Team & Scorers: J. Krisiulevicius 41pts, Luke Cawley 5pts, D. O Hanlon 2pts, C. Harpin 2pts, D. McPhillips, E. Shiels, G. Treanor, M. McMorrow, Sean S. Kelly and M. Donohue.

U14 B Boys:  Blackwater Steelers 28pts Drogheda Bullets 45pts

There was only a point between these two teams when they played in Drogheda, but this was far from the case this time. 19pts to 1pt down after the first said it all. A bad start went from bad to worse. The boys did win the last quarter and played well in it, but the game was already lost. A disappointing result.

Team & Scorers: S. Swift 7pts, C. Murphy 6pts, A. McKnight 5pts, F. Gallagher 5pts, A. Elsayed 2pts, A. Walsh 2pts, D. Conlon 1pt, J. Curley, R. McArdle, M. McVicar, A. McArdle and R. McMahon.

U12 Boys:  Blackwater Steelers 25pts Drogheda Bullets 36pts

The young Drogheda boys were just too strong for the Steeler lads on the day.

U16 Boys:  Blackwater Steelers 40pts Drogheda Bullets 43pts

The Steelers got agonisingly close to beating the Bullets but just lacked those key subtleties in their play that’s needed to beat the top teams. We certainly had the chances to beat Drogheda, between free shots and missed “putbacks” around the hoop, we had enough opportunities to come away with the win.

A second quarter wobble was responsible for the loss, the Steelers only scored 4pts to Drogheda’s 13pts and racked up fouls as frustration got the better of some. Disciplined defence was always going to be the key to a win and we lost that discipline in this quarter and it cost the game.

Team & Scorers: C. Liddle 13pts, B. Ryan 9pts, M. Curley 6pts, A. Stewart 5pts, R. Corrigan 4pts T. O Rourke 3pts, R. Murphy, L. McKenna and Liam Conway.

U18 Boys:  Blackwater Steelers 81pts Drogheda Bullets 54pts

This was a comprehensive win for the U18 Boys over one of the stronger sides in the league and more importantly a good performance from all 12 lads. The first started of even enough but three huge 3 pointers from Killian McAdam helped drive a 12 gap between the sides. The Steelers shaded the 2nd by just 3pts but were still in command. A very effective fast break developed in the 3rd and the Monaghan side stretched the lead to over 25 pts as the bench played a more prominent role in proceedings.

Team & Scorers: K. McAdam 25pts, A. O Connor 19pts, R. Haynes 16pts, R. Treanor 8pts, C. Fitzgerald 5pts, M. McDonnell 4pts, S. Uglis 2pts, K. McCaffrey 2pts, S. Ostrowski, J. Hamill, D. McKenna and L. O Rourke.

3 wins and 3 Defeats for Steelers
Feb 14, 2018, 9:24 am

U14 B Boys:  East Coast Cavaliers 16pts Blackwater Steelers 45pts

The lads got off to a great start in Laytown, Co. Meath on Saturday morning and never looked back. They were 14 – 2 up after the first with the baskets shared between 4 of the lads. The 2nd quarter boys built on that advantage to go 22pts to 4pts up at half time. Naturally the Cavaliers hit back strongly in the third but the Steelers held their ground and then continued to build the scoreline in the last. All ten lads were brilliant today and they deserved their win.

Team & Scorers: Cian Murphy 15pts, Shea Swift 6pts, Aidan McKnight 6pts, Ali Elsayed 6pts, Daire Conlan 6

pts, Ryan McMahon 2pts, Aaron McArdle 2pts, Matthew McVicar 2pts, Ryan McArdle and Josh Curley.

U14 Boys: Blackwater Steelers 52pts Muckno Lakers 51pts

This was a basket for basket super tight match that went to overtime served up by two brilliantly sporting teams. This one swung one way then the other all game and it would have taken a brave or maybe foolish man to bet on the outcome. The Steelers led in this Monaghan derby after the first by 3pts but the Blaney lads pulled it back in the 2nd to lead by 3pts at half time. The Steelers pulled that back in the 3rd to leave the score at 34 each going into the last. Just when Muckno thought they had it in the bag Jamie Krisiulevicius hit a huge 3 to drag his side back from the jaws of defeat and then coolly pop in two free shots to put the game into overtime.

The Steelers defence just did enough to give the home side the platform to win the game by a point after 3 minutes overtime. Jamie Krisiulevicius deserves a special mention, he hit 35pts in a match winning performance as does Johnnie Wright who stepped up from the U 12 team for a sick player.

Team & Scorers: Jamie Krisiulevicius 35pts, Luke Cawley 5pts, Donacha O Hanlon 3pts, Conal Harpin 3pts, Enri Shiels 2pts, Gary Treanor 2pts, Lucas Kriscunas 2pts, Johnnie Wright, Michael McMorrow and Dylan McPhillips.

U16 Boys:  Blackwater Steelers 41pts Muckno Lakers 37pts

This game was tight too and fair dues to Muckno Lakers who I was reliably informed played their best game of the season against the Steelers. The home side in contrast were poor on the day, especially in front of the basket, their finishing was distinctly off form.

Muckno Lakers took a deserved lead 15 to 9 in the first and still held a 2pt lead at halftime and the home side were getting more and more frustrated in front of the hoop. That never really changed throughout the game, what won the game in the end for the home side was excellent defence in the third and the lads got enough scores to get ahead. They then saw out a 4pt win but it does not hide how poor the performance was which is worrying with a huge game against Drogheda coming up this Sunday.

Team and Scorers: Cameron Liddle 11pts, Alister Stewart 9pts, Ben Ryan 9pts, Tiernan O Rourke 5pts, Kacper Ostrowski 3pts, Matthew Curley 2pts, Rio Corrigan 2pts, Liam Conway, Ryan Murphy, Liam McKenna, Kelvin Hackett and Conor Mulligan.

Girls Games

The three girl’s teams unfortunately went down to stronger opposition in Muckno Lakers over the weekend. On Saturday the 12 girls lost by 44pts to 13pts and on Sunday the U 16 girls lost by 47pts to 23pts followed by another defeat for the 18 girls by 68pts to 38pts.

Visit of Drogheda Sparks and Drogheda Bullets

All the Steeler teams are preparing for tough games this weekend. The girls play 3 games on Saturday against Drogheda Sparks and the boys play 5 games on Sunday against Drogheda Bullets. See website or FB pages for times etc.
